1977's recent reunion was a smashing success-according to the

Representative to the United Nations

Ambassador Courtenay Rattray ('76) recently assumed his new role
as Jamaica's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New
York, following a tour of duty as Jamaica's Ambassador to China.
Before that, he served as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Jamaica's
Embassy in Washington, DC.

School won the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Boys
Athletic Championships (Boys Champs) in 1960. Excelsior were the
favourites and they did not disappoint, with such stars as
sprinters, Noel Mitchell, Carlton “Rollie” Knibb & Mercer Boyd,
and Middle distance man Earl Belcher. Captain D. Hornet was
injured, but the team’s depth was such that they were able to
THE PASSING OF MR. LESLIE ELLIS
Mr. Leslie Ellis (1934-2012),
father of Owen Blakka Ellis('77), died last evening in Toronto
after a short illness.
Mr Ellis, who had lived in
Toronto for more than four decades, was a retired tailor,
designer, singer & songwriter and sang with the group Alton & the
Flames led by younger brother, the late Alton Ellis. Sister
Hortense Ellis, also another noted singer, also predeceased him.
DANCE STUDIO PROJECT TO GET UNDERWAY

Excelsior At 81: Giving Thanks on Founder's Day
Alumni in South Florida were fulsome in
their praise of the alma mater when they marked Founder's Day 2012 with
the second annual Service of Thanksgiving at the Holy Family Episcopal
Church in Miami Gardens last Sunday January 22.

ensured that Peanie’s name will continue to echo around the
Excelsior campus for some time yet after it established the Muriel
McLeod Scholarship to honor the recently retired food vendor.
Xmas Bash 2011: A December to Remember
Great music. Good vibes. Delectable
food. Unbridled joviality: Xmas Bash 2011 had all the elements
that patrons have come to expect, and which have made the annual
South Florida soiree a calendar event for many alumni and
supporters. As close to four hundred people clogged the Caribbean
Cultural Center (formerly the Warehouse) in Lauderhill last
Saturday night, the air conditioner was no match for the heat
generated by so many bodies tightly jammed and swaying to the
sweet and sultry sounds of Mark Swaby’s musical selections.

Rhodes Scholarship to Daughter of Alumnus
Berley Adair (‘77) and his wife,
Annette, are undoubtedly very proud parents today after their
daughter Kamille Adair was recently named Jamaica’s 2011-2012
Rhodes Scholar. Kamille will pursue studies in International Law.

commemoration in 2011, the Excelsior Alumni Association of Florida has
set its sights on raising US$80,000.00 (approximately J$6.7 million)

Anniversary Gala Celebrates School, Teachers
On a searing summer evening in
South Florida, celebration and introspection were both in the air as
the Excelsior Alumni Association of Florida hosted its inaugural
Dinner and Dance, Saturday July 16, at the Miramar Multi-Purpose
Center, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the

The Florida and New York Alumni chapter will unite in an effort to raise funds for their alma mater. Both chapters will be launching a fundraising raffle on May 1, 2011 and in keeping with the school's 80th anniversary have adopted the slogan "going for $80K".
